RED SEA RULE 7: Envision God’s enveloping presence.

The Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them. So it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel. Thus it was a cloud and darkness to the one, and it gave light by night to the other, so that the one did not come near the other all that night. ~ Exodus 14:19-20

This phenomenon of God’s Presence is a mystery we will likely not understand this side of Heaven. What’s most amazing to me is God’s Presence is shown throughout Scripture and has been experienced by many in different ways even today.

The pillar of fire and cloud that followed the Israelites through the wilderness was later seen as a cloud of glory in Solomons temple and again in the Upper Room on the day of Pentecost. This same Presence resides every moment in and  with all Christians.

It’s important to remind ourselves the Lord’s Presence is with us. We can practice the Presence of God daily by:

    • Affirming God’s nearness in our hearts

I will never leave you nor forsake you. ~ Hebrews 13:5

    • Visualize God’s Presence in our mind

The Lord stood with me and strengthened me. ~ 2 Timothy 4:17

    • Access God’s nearness through prayer

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. ~ James 4:8

    • Reflect God’s Presence in our behavior

Walk humbly in the company of your God. ~ Micah 6:8

If we knew Jesus was literally standing beside us today, how would we feel about our current Red Sea situation?

THE RED SEA RULES STUDY :: WHEN UNSURE, JUST TAKE THE NEXT LOGICAL STEP BY FAITH

AT RHW WE PUBLISH A NEW COLUMN EACH FRIDAY. WE’RE GOING THROUGH FOUR SPECIFIC STUDIES WITH EACH SERIES BEING PUBLISHED ON A DESIGNATED FRIDAY OF THE MONTH.

RED SEA RULE 6: When unsure, just take the next logical step by faith.

The Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.” ~ Exodus 14:15

It’s not for us to know what lies ahead. Whether it’s good things coming or bad, God protects us from knowing too much in our future.

If we knew bad things were coming tomorrow, we might give up on God altogether and go down in a tailspin of anxiety and depression,

If we knew good things were coming tomorrow we would become prideful and we might decide we don’t even need God’s help at all.

“So don’t be anxious about tomorrow. God will take care of your tomorrow too. Live one day at a time.”  ~ Matthew 6:34

God wants us to faithfully depend on Him every minute of every day. Looking for His perfect Light to shine on our path for guidance. Listening for His gentle whisper for direction.

“When you don’t know what to do next, cast out fear and seek light for the next step. Trust God for guidance in small increments; and if you can’t see what lies dimly in the distance, do what lies clearly at hand.” ~  Robert J. Morgan

RED SEA RULE 4: PRAY!

When Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the Lord. ~ Exodus 14:10

As we’ve seen in our previous lessons, God purposefully put the Israelites in this place of crisis. We don’t know all the reasons why. But we do know that He was working to build their faith and trust back in Him.

After four centuries of slave labor to the Egyptians, not only were the children of Israel not prepared to serve God, they weren’t equipped for any battle that faced them. Finding themselves pinned against the Red Sea by Pharaoh’s soldiers they were filled with great fear. To their credit they did the right thing and cried out to the Lord.

“When we can’t press forward, move sideward, or step backward, it’s time to look upward and to ask God to make a way.” ~ Robert J. Morgan, The Red Sea Rules

PRAY SWIFTLY

Pray in the Spirit at all times. Pray with all kinds of prayers, and ask for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready. Never give up. ~ Ephesians 6:18

Don’t waste a moment! In times of crisis call immediately upon the Lord.

PRAY SINCERELY

The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.~ James 5:16

Be honest with God about your needs. After all, He knows already.

PRAY SURELY

They cry out to the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, so that its waves are still. ~ Psalm 107:28-29

Trust that God hears you and will answer in His perfect way and time.

THE RED SEA RULES STUDY :: GOD MEANS FOR YOU TO BE WHERE YOU ARE

AT RHW WE PUBLISH A NEW COLUMN EACH FRIDAY. WE’RE GOING THROUGH FOUR SPECIFIC STUDIES WITH EACH SERIES BEING PUBLISHED ON A DESIGNATED WEEK OF THE MONTH.

In THE RED SEA RULES series we’re using the wonderful book by Robert J. Morgan as our guideline for a deep study of Exodus 14. Join me on the fourth Friday of each month in 2020 as we apply Morgan’s “10 God-Given Strategies for Difficult Times” to our lives today.

RED SEA RULE 1: Realize that God means for you to be where you are.

“God spoke to Moses: “Tell the Israelites to turn around and make camp at Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea. Camp on the shore of the sea opposite Baal Zephon.” ~ Exodus 14:1-2

DEAD ENDS AND QUESTION MARKS

In the first Scripture of our study we read that God tells Moses to turn the Israelites around and make camp on the shore of the Red Sea. I’m sure the Israelites were wondering why they turned around and are going back from where they came instead of going away from the Egyptians.

“Worry is putting question marks where God has put periods.” ~ John R. Rice

It’s easy to get bogged down in worry and wonder why we are in the situation we are in today. We may even begin to think we are at fault for some reason.

In times like these it’s important that to realize that God has everything under control. He has either put us here and will get us out. Or if we have put ourselves here, God will still get us out and good will come from it.

WHEN FACING A TOUGH SITUATION REMEMBER YOU ARE:

    • In God’s Assignment: We are here for a reason.
    • In God’s Protection: We are being kept safe.
    • In God’s Education: We are learning something for our future.
    • In God’s Plan: It all works together for good one day.
